About

As part of its mandate to develop and coordinate national research capacities, the National Center for Research and Development (NCRD) established the Biotechnology Program in 2005 to strengthen Jordan’s capabilities in applied biotechnology.

The program advances research and development across priority sectors including agriculture, health, animal sciences, environment, and industry, in alignment with national development goals. It supports applied scientific research, fosters innovation and technology transfer, and builds strategic partnerships with local and international institutions.

By translating scientific knowledge into practical applications and economically productive initiatives, the Biotechnology Program contributes to sustainable development and reinforces Jordan’s position within the regional and global bio economy landscape.

Empowering Women through Specialized Training in Traditional and Italian Cheese Production – 2026

This project aims to empower local women in the Al-Safawi area through innovative training programs that build their skills in producing both Italian and local cheeses.

The project is a collaboration between the National Center for Research and Development, the Italian Association Habibi, and a local women’s association to empower women through training in producing handmade Italian and local cheeses. It focuses on innovative, income-generating approaches to support sustainable livelihoods in rural desert communities. The program also integrates scientific knowledge through NCRD’s biotechnology efforts, enhancing skills in fermentation and quality control. It has been implemented in two phases, training a total of 17 women.
