Jordan releases its report on precompetitive analysis – PPI4MED Project

The National Center for Research and Development(NCRD) is implementing PPI4MED project: “Technological transfer and commercialization of public research results through PPI in the Mediterranean region” supported by the European Union through the ENI - CBC MED program, covering various sectors including agriculture, environment, transportation, water, health and energy.

NCRD conducted a baseline survey under WP5 and shared the survey with more than 150 project stakeholders, the results were collected and analyzed, to generate a complete SWOT analysis about innovation & entrepreneurship, public procurement, private sector and Research & Development in Jordan. Five sectors analysis were prepared, national patents list was analyzed and a comparison between public needs and available patents was completed for potential commercialization.

Several brainstorming sessions for the Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) model as part of the living lab activities for the PPI4MED project were conducted From September - November 2023 , These sessions were  online via the zoom program

The sessions were attended by representatives from different sectors: government sector, private sector, universities, research centers, researchers in different sectors, and other interested stakeholders. The discussions focused on: the challenges faced by researchers, the role of innovation and entrepreneurship centers, government purchasing plans, related patents, the role of the Scientific Research & Innovation Support Fund (SRISF), and ways of cooperation between the key players: the government sector, the private sector, and universities/research centers/ researchers. 

As a result, a report was prepared to highlight some key topics, such as the challenges in R&D in Jordan, the eco-system of innovation and entrepreneurship, funding support, public procurement plans, available patents, and current collaboration between the three main parties: the government sector, the private sector, and universities/research centers/researchers.
